WASHINGTON, DC (May 4, 2026) — Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) has joined the Cargo Airline Association (CAA) as an Airport Associate member, strengthening its role in the national air cargo network.
“We are pleased to welcome BWI to CAA,” said CAA President Lauren Beyer. “Its growing cargo operations and strategic position in the National Capital Region make it an important addition to our membership. We look forward to working together on key priorities for a safe, efficient, and competitive air cargo system.”
The partnership with CAA underscores BWI’s continued expansion as a key logistics hub. In 2025, the airport handled 567 million pounds of freight, an annual increase of 8%, making it the busiest cargo airport in the Washington–Baltimore region.
“Freight operations are a critical component of our mission and overall economic impact,” said Shannetta Griffin, Executive Director and CEO for the Maryland Aviation Administration. “Membership with the Cargo Airline Association will advance BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport’s role in the logistics supply chain and support business development and economic growth for our region.”
BWI continues to serve as a major transportation gateway, with roughly 300 daily nonstop departures to nearly 90 destinations. The airport generates an estimated $11.3 billion in annual economic impact and supports more than 107,000 jobs in the region.
